As one of the biggest challenges for our future, environmental problems are becoming serious concerns not only to some specialists but also to general people. In the tourism industry, various eco-tours are planned domestically and abroad, and some travel plans are even combined with carbon offset programs, which contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions. From the same background, Green Key, an Eco-Label for accommodation facilities, is gradually developing since its inception in 1994 in Denmark, with 820 awarded facilities in 14 countries as of March 2009.
The approach for Green Key is not merely a commitment to the environment, but the action itself provides new aspects for organization management, for instance, improve the quality of guest service from a different perspective, promote corporation PR activities with new management tools and enhance brand potential by making a social contribution. As the number of Green Key facilities increases, more people will become aware of environmental issues, and thus it expands Green Key market, which benefits to the awarded institutions. This program is expected to create a virtuous cycle by itself.
